My Favourite Podcasts

Living just a 10-minute walk away from work, it's too long to not do anything, too short to watch a movie and too inconvenient to read a book. I've (passively) looked around for ages to get into podcasts, but over the last year, I've finally found the right set-up.

After testing out a few apps (I have an android phone), I've finally settled on Castbox. It works well for me for a number of reasons:
It has a great choice of podcasts and an intuitive interface.
For those with a tight mobile data plan, it allows for downloading only on wifi.
Also, I usually find myself wanting to run my media at 1.2x speed so that I can listen to more content over time - this app has a flexible replay speed - which is probably the biggest factor for my sticking to the app.
Its available in the apple app store and the google play store.

The podcasts mentioned below are some of my favourite podcasts, all of which are available in the Castbox library.

  • The Infinite Monkey Cage: The legendary (I don't throw that word around lightly) Brian Cox & Robin Ince invite a panel of exceedingly intelligent guests to each episode to talk about things around the world.
  • More or Less: Behind the Stats: Behind the Stats: Tim Harford and the team investigate the millions of numbers we come across and fact-checks the validity of them! Extremely entertaining, especially for anyone who works with numbers and statistics.
  • The Curious Cases of Rutherford & Fry: The Curious Cases of Rutherford & Fry: Probably my favourite Doctors of the podcasting world, Dr Rutherford & Dr Fry answers their listeners' burning questions. Super smart and funny they both are!
  • Planet Money: Hear about some really interesting stories about things that have happened in the past which affected the economies of the world.
  • Talk Python To Me: Great for anyone in the Python community. The host, Michael Kennedy, covers myriad topics related to python and the people who are part of it.

Honorable Mentions (Podcasts that I think are great, but haven't yet listened a lot to, yet..):
